This verse is part of the resurrection narrative. There was a violent earthquake, for an angel of the Lord came down from heaven and, going to the tomb, rolled back the stone and sat on it. ![]() They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. Matthew 28:2 is the second verse of the twenty-eighth chapter of the Gospel of Matthew in the New Testament. Below is the Bible passage of Jesus resurrection from the gospel of Matthew: 'After the Sabbath, at dawn on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to look at the tomb. You will see him there, just as he told you.” 8 Overcome with terror and dread, they fled from the tomb. 7 Go, tell his disciples, especially Peter, that he is going ahead of you into Galilee. Look, here’s the place where they laid him. 6 He is not here, for He has risen, just as He said. Now after the Sabbath, toward the dawn of the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went to see the tomb. 6 But he said to them, “Don’t be alarmed! You are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. We see here that Mary went to the tomb as it began to. 2 : a house, chamber, or vault for the dead. TOMB: 1 : an excavation in which a corpse is buried. ![]() And behold, Jesus met them and said, Greetings. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they came to the tomb. In the end of the Sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. So they departed quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to tell his disciples. 16 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they could go and anoint Jesus’ dead body.
